Parks and Trails commissioner resigns for health reasons; council appoints Christine Van Heining

Donna Johnson told the Calamasa City Council on Aug. 18 that she is resigning from the Parks, Trails and Community Services Commission because her health is deteriorating. “Unfortunately, I have to come before you to resign from the commission ... My health is deteriorating, and I just cannot do it,” Johnson said during public comments. Council member Howard Cundiff moved to appoint Christine Van Heining to the vacancy on the Parks, Trails and Community Services Commission. The council unanimously approved the appointment, and Van Heining was sworn in at the meeting. City staff told the council that Van Heining previously served on the commission and has experience on the planning commission. What this means: The appointment fills the commission vacancy created by Johnson’s resignation; the council approved the motion 5–0 and administered the oath of office.
