Operations staff updated the Williamsburg-James City County School Board on capital improvement projects completed over the past year and on projects underway for 2025.
Projects completed included the Warhill auxiliary gym addition, North electrical system upgrades, Matoaka refurbishment, Berkeley lighting upgrade (T12 to LED), interior repaint and carpeting at Berkeley, Jamestown weight‑room expansion, Lafayette 900 Building renovation, Lafayette track resurfacing, Stone House walk‑in refrigerator, division‑wide parking lot work, and playground upgrades. Staff reported many projects finished under budget; others required transfers between CIP fiscal years.
Highlights presented: the Lafayette 900 Building renovation included lighting, mechanical and plumbing upgrades, new rooftop air handling units, interior finishes and a fenced courtyard; the project was approved in FY24 CIP at $4,750,000 and constructed for $3,828,989. The Warhill auxiliary gym was approved in FY22 CIP for $4,623,100 and constructed for $5,052,859; staff noted it also serves as an emergency shelter. The Lafayette track reconstruction was completed for $498,602 (budget $602,000). Playground upgrades totaled $163,693 against a $300,000 annual budget; remaining funds will be used for minor repairs and next summer’s projects.
Staff said they typically come in under budget overall and transfer balances to cover overages; they also noted rising costs for equipment such as walk‑in refrigerators and plan to include those increases in the next CIP. Administration said a list of projects underway for 2025 will be provided next year and offered to answer board member questions.
Decision status: informational update; no board action required.
