Mr. Landers, speaking for the Department of Technology, said the division refreshes roughly one-fourth of staff and student laptops each year on a four‑year cycle to maintain warranties and support application compatibility. He said the purchase includes extended warranties covering the four‑year life of each device and supports an upgrade to Windows 11. “The extended warranty covers all 4 years of the life of the laptop,” Landers said.
Landers told the board the division experienced some device aging issues earlier in the year, including blue‑screen problems, and that device longevity has trended closer to a three‑year lifecycle, but the division extended it to four years for budgetary reasons. Administration said reverting to a three‑year cycle would raise annual costs and require increased technology funding.
Procurement and funding: the purchase would use the MCPA Omnia contract with Lenovo; funds are allocated in the technology department’s approved budget. Decision status: administration asked the board to approve the purchase at the next meeting; no vote occurred at this session.
