Courtney Montpoint presented a request-for-proposal (RFP) for cross‑curricular literacy resources for grades 6–12 and told the Williamsburg-James City County School Board that the division plans a two‑year contract to support literacy instruction across content areas.
Montpoint said the RFP was released April 30, 2025, with proposals due May 30, 2025, and notices posted on the county website and procurement portals to encourage competition. The RFP committee used a rubric considering vendor qualifications, understanding of division needs, software functionality, professional development, and cost; the committee met July 10, 2025, to select a preferred vendor.
“The selected resource will support students in strengthening literacy and critical thinking skills across disciplines,” Montpoint said. She added the preferred vendor is currently used in WJCC and the prior contract expires in August, which required issuing a new RFP to avoid disruption. The two‑year contract total is $176,106.24 and funds are available in the instructional technology cost center; following board approval, administration plans implementation, teacher training, and curriculum integration for 2025–26.
Decision status: board members reviewed the RFP information; administration asked the board to be prepared to approve the contract at the Aug. 19, 2025 meeting. No contract award vote occurred at this session.
