The Village of Cleves service director briefed council and residents on infrastructure and parks work, summarizing recent street patching, right-of-way brush clearing, park preparations and fleet maintenance.
Work completed and in progress
- Road patching: crews completed asphalt patching on multiple streets, including Elliot, Skidmore and Oregon; most work was concentrated in Westgate, Barwood, Edgefield, New Pine, Coleman Woods and Ashton View. Crews also patched four alleys where potholes presented hazards.
- Materials and costs: the director reported approximately 25 tons of blacktop had been placed recently and estimated an approximate supplier cost of about $100 per ton (estimate subject to invoice reconciliation). Smaller localized patches used 1–2 tons in concentrated areas.
- Right-of-way and brush: crews cleared brush on US 50 from North Bend toward Mount Nebo and trimmed state and village rights-of-way, and removed vegetation along Door River Road.
- Park and field work: staff prepared the park for soccer matches, staked and roped fields to protect turf, and noted concessions and partnerships with community groups for fall sports. The director said the crew also handles fleet maintenance for waterworks vehicles.
Resident questions and operational notes
Residents reported a few missed potholes that were obscured by parked cars; the director said crews could return to patch areas when vehicles were moved and that no-parking notices or towing would be used where necessary to allow repairs. Council members praised the crew’s work while noting the challenge of keeping up with 90 percent of the village roads that are beyond useful life and require periodic patching to manage winter damage.
Why it matters
The report shows active maintenance to limit winter pothole formation and maintain park assets used by youth sports. Council members said the work is prioritized for roads with the greatest travel volume and for park fields ahead of scheduled fall games.
Ending note
The service director said crews will continue patching over the coming weeks and will follow up with residents who submit specific locations for repair. He also invited residents to provide addresses for missed areas so staff can prioritize repairs.
