Dr. Tawanna Grover, superintendent of the Cedar Rapids Community School District, welcomed students and families at the start of the 2026 school year and said the district would emphasize "care, clarity and communication." Grover said care means "we listen with kindness and we act with empathy," clarity means "seeking to understand and being clear in our path forward," and communication means families will "see more from your child's school, our district, social media, and on our website." She invited community feedback and said there would be times the district would ask for input. Grover also said the first week indicated the school year was "off to a wonderful start."
