City Council sends brewery/distillery rules back to Planning Commission for further review

Lakewood City Council has returned proposed changes affecting breweries and distilleries to the Planning Commission for additional review and recommendations, Council Member Bokey reported at the Sept. 3 commission meeting. Council Member Bokey said council members wanted more discussion about allowing drinking establishments and related uses — for example, whether taverns or bars should be permitted in neighborhood commercial or certain residential zones — and asked the commission to revisit where breweries, distilleries and similar uses are allowed. Andrea Bell confirmed staff will place the issue on the commission’s upcoming agenda (anticipated two meetings out) so the commission can prepare revisions and then send recommendations back to council for action this fall. The commission did not take action on the item at the Sept. 3 meeting; the council’s request will require staff analysis of zone lists and potentially new boundary or use restrictions before further hearings.
