Transit agencies report vehicle-aging metrics; committee adopts asset-management plan

Danny (BMTA representative) presented the transit agencies’ asset-performance data to the coordinating committee on Sept. 10. He said PennDOT’s performance measure shows 29.7% of revenue vehicles as meeting or exceeding their useful life as a group; EMTA’s fleet performance was higher, at 53.8% of revenue vehicles exceeding useful life. Danny also said cutaway paratransit vehicles measured 58% for the group and EMTA’s paratransit measured 51%.
Danny told the committee that eight buses are on order and that the orders will retire older diesel vehicles and increase the compressed natural gas (CNG) fleet for fixed routes.
The committee moved to adopt the 2025 asset-management (AM) plan presented by staff. The motion was seconded, and the chair called for a voice vote; committee members voted “Aye” and the motion carried. Danny said final formal adoption documents may be completed at the next meeting if required by PennDOT procedures.
No operational service changes were proposed during the presentation; the discussion focused on fleet condition, replacement schedules and compliance with PennDOT asset-management expectations.
