MPO begins long-range plan outreach; multimodal subcommittee formed to advise active-transportation work

Ally (Staff member) told the coordinating committee that the MPO’s Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) outreach is underway. Packets with a flyer and QR code linking to a county LRTP survey and an interactive Wiki map were distributed; staff asked municipalities to return completed packets and said 17 of 41 packets had been returned at the time of the meeting. Ally said the MPO will hold four stakeholder meetings on Sept. 16 (10 a.m. and 6 p.m.) and Sept. 18 (1 p.m. and 6 p.m.) at the Summit Township Building and plans two public meetings in mid-October, tentatively Oct. 16.
Emerson (Staff member) reported that the Erie MPO secured a $50,000 PA WalkWorks grant to study the potential for bike share and other micromobility in Erie County. Emerson said the TAC unanimously voted to form a multimodal subcommittee to advise the MPO on active transportation, accessibility and complete-streets issues; the subcommittee’s first meeting is scheduled for Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the planning department office.
Ally and Emerson encouraged committee members to distribute the LRTP flyers and the QR code on social media and municipal websites to boost public participation. Ally said WRA is the LRTP consultant and will help lead public engagement and that the LRTP update will be coordinated with the county’s hazard mitigation plan mid-cycle review.
Staff invited committee members to request paper copies of the packet or provide completed forms at stakeholder meetings; they reiterated that projects will remain in the 2050 LRTP only if municipalities confirm them in returned packets.
