Municipal manager seeks council approval to reside outside township while securing local housing

Brian, the township municipal manager, told council he is requesting approval to continue residing outside the township while he finalizes a closer residence. He said the Home Rule Charter does not require a manager to live in the township at the time of appointment but does require council approval for a manager to reside outside the township after appointment. The manager said he has been living at Devlin’s Point while searching for permanent housing and that he plans to close next week on a property on Shaler Drive, about 5.3 miles from the township building and roughly two miles from the township border. "I located a property on Shaler Drive. It's 5.3 miles from this building," he told council. He said he was seeking council’s approval to live outside the community while completing the purchase. Council members discussed the request informally; no formal vote was recorded at the meeting. The manager said he has been searching for housing and intends to move closer to the township when possible.
