PennDOT plans 2026 paving on Macaulay Road; council told to approve manhole adjustments

Township environmental services staff told the council that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation plans to repave Macaulay Road in 2026 and that three manholes will need to be adjusted as part of the project. Environmental Services reported that PennDOT asked the township to pass a resolution indicating the township’s intent for restoration work so the state can proceed; staff said the necessary work on the three manholes likely involves installing riser rings, which staff estimated at about $100 each, and that the township will coordinate the small restoration. "They reached out to us specifically because there are three manholes on Macaulay Road that need to be adjusted," the environmental services speaker said. Council members asked whether PennDOT could add shoulders to the road for safer walking and bicycling. Staff said much of the corridor lacks room for additional shoulder and that the state’s maintenance division is reconstructing the existing pavement rather than funding a capital redesign. Environmental staff said they would contact Representative Schafer’s office to request additional consideration but cautioned success was uncertain. Township staff said the council will be asked to approve a resolution at the next meeting to satisfy PennDOT’s requirements for the restoration.
