The board heard a discussion about possible adoption of digital ticketing and cashless concession payment systems at athletic and other school events.
Jackson, identified in the meeting as an ASB representative, presented research and an FAQ, saying digital ticketing and cashless concessions shorten lines, reduce staff hours spent processing cash and improve daily deposit practices required for ASB funds. “Lines move faster… it’s more cost efficient… and also safety for event staff workers carrying cash,” Jackson said, adding an example that at one contest he had carried “$10,000 in cash.”
Board members and community speakers raised access questions: some families do not carry cards, and some students attend events spontaneously without pre-purchased tickets. Board members suggested hybrid approaches — fast-pass lines for prepaid tickets and an on-site cash lane — or devices that convert cash to a prepaid card. Administrators said cashless pilots could be trialed and that exceptions can be made at gates.
No formal action was taken; presenters said the discussion would return at a later meeting with pilot recommendations and additional cost and equity analysis.
