The Prosser School District Board on Aug. 13 approved a contract with Happy SLP LLC to provide speech-language pathology services after the district reported difficulty filling a full-time speech-language pathologist position. District staff said the contracted clinician had worked for the district previously and would supervise an in-person paraeducator who supports middle and high school students. The board heard that using a contractor is not the district’s preferred long-term approach but would cost roughly one-third of a comparable full-time hire, according to the district’s presentation. The presenter said the contractor would supervise the paraeducator, assist with lesson planning and provide the services that require a certified speech-language pathologist. The contractor’s supervision would be virtual while services to students would be delivered in person by the district paraeducator. The board approved the contract by voice vote.
