Town staff told trustees that the Colorado Department of Transportation has set aside approximately $1 million in its current plan for a park‑and‑ride facility in Buena Vista and asked the board for direction on whether to pursue design and construction on a CPW‑owned triangular parcel north of County Road 317.
Brian (town staff) explained the funding was noted in CDOT’s program and that the agency has indicated the money can be used for design and construction. Staff suggested the usable portion of the six‑acre CPW parcel could be about 1.5 to 2 acres after accounting for shape and drainage; the site would require grading, drainage improvements and at least basic access work. No specific design or capacity (number of parking spaces) was presented; staff said the next practical step is to develop a conceptual cost estimate (for example, design costs plus construction) to show how far the $1 million would go.
The board did not take a final vote but asked staff to continue developing a concept and cost estimate for the site, noting that CDOT has indicated the funding could be removed if the town declines to pursue a project.
