Heritage Days committee thanks volunteers, sets 2026 dates and seeks volunteers

Tony, a representative of the Heritage Days Committee, updated the council on the committee’s work and thanked volunteers, businesses and city staff for support in staging this year’s Heritage Days. Why it matters: Heritage Days is a recurring community festival that depends on months of planning, volunteers and city support; the committee’s planning choices affect budget priorities and public events in the city. Tony told the council the committee starts planning roughly 10 months ahead of the third weekend in August, coordinates with city public safety and public works on permits and road closures, and relies on donations and volunteers. He said the committee salvaged the event after a storm that interrupted Friday’s schedule and that the committee plans to reconvene early in the coming months to begin 2026 planning. The committee announced the 2026 Heritage Days dates as Aug. 14–16 (the third weekend in August) and invited residents to attend committee meetings, which are held the second and fourth Mondays at Heritage Park. The committee also listed its website (sppheritagedays.com) and a Facebook page (SPPHeritageDays) for updates and said it is seeking additional volunteers.
