LaGrange Park approves online vendor for unclaimed property, and authorizes purchase of fire deputy vehicle

Chief Contois and police staff reported July activity, noting overall crime was down 13% year to date compared with the prior year and traffic enforcement totaled 2,217 citations through July. The department reported hiring and staffing changes, including the retirement of Officer Matt Fellers effective July 1 and the hiring of part‑time officer Mark Lemus. Chief Contois said the department met state training mandates following a meeting with the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
The board unanimously approved a vendor agreement authorizing the police department to use propertyroom.com to dispose of unclaimed property. Staff said there is no membership fee and the platform handles pickup, storage, auction management, regulatory compliance and disbursing net proceeds to the department; staff will pilot the program and finalize internal transfer and documentation protocols. Trustees asked about fees and revenue shares; staff said auctions yield a split where the department receives a percentage of sale proceeds and propertyroom.com retains a portion.
On fire department matters, chief staff reported EMS and fire rescue incident counts for July and noted personnel training and mutual aid responses during weather‑related incidents. The department received a $17,000 reimbursement grant for training that staff said was unbudgeted revenue recorded in fiscal 2025.
The board also approved waiver of competitive bidding and the purchase of a 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe Special Service Vehicle (SSV) for use by the deputy fire chief from Curry Motors Chevrolet for a cost not to exceed $62,000. Staff said the SSV is packaged for public‑safety use, including mechanical enhancements that ease upfitting and support emergency response duties; estimated upfit and warning equipment costs were included in the staff memo. Trustees supported purchasing while noting rising vehicle costs and limited availability.
All motions recorded on these public‑safety items passed by unanimous roll call.
