Chesterfield registrar says new poll pads, handheld devices will speed check-in; early voting dates announced

Chesterfield County’s registrar told the county electoral board on Aug. 19 that newly funded poll pads and handheld check-in devices will speed voter check-in and reduce physical strain on officers during early and election-day voting.
On behalf of the registrar’s office and the electoral board, Miss Farah said, “Thank you for approving the funding for the additional knowing poll pads.” She said the county has used poll pads since 2019 for absentee-by-mail processing and early in-person voting and has expanded their use to election-day operations to “streamline the election builds for the poll pads, simplify supply preparation and logistics, ensure continuity and training and user experience.”
The registrar described a feature that lets officers scan a driver’s license and a voter card to speed check-in. She added that the office purchased handheld pull pads for officers assisting curbside voters during early voting, saying the devices let an officer “complete the check-in process curbside, improving efficiency and reducing that physical strain.” Board members praised the change and noted improved operations during curbside service.
The registrar gave dates and site details: early voting begins “in just 23 days on Friday, September 19 at Central Library,” which will be the primary early voting site; five additional locations will open for early voting starting Monday, October 20. She said one of those sites, LaPrade Library, is undergoing remodeling and that “the library’s meeting room will be open to serve early voters only” while renovation continues. She reminded listeners that election day is Tuesday, November 4, and that voters should confirm their assigned polling location for election-day voting rather than using an early voting site.
She directed residents to the registrar’s webpage and an on-screen QR code for sample ballots and early voting hours at each site, and closed with voter-preparation guidance: “Know what is on the ballot. Know when and where to vote. Be prepared. Ensure your registration is current and bring an acceptable ID to vote. And be engaged. Participate in the process by serving as an officer of election and encouraging others to do the same.”
No formal motions or votes were taken during the registrar’s report; the funding for the additional poll pads was referenced as already approved.
