Board approves $40,000 design agreement for districtwide interior signage, estimates $500K–$1M build cost

The Lebanon Community School Corporation on Aug. 19 approved a $40,000 design agreement with Sign Works to create districtwide interior signage and branding. The project will begin with formal design work; Sign Works proposed a $20,000 credit toward future fabrication and installation should the district select that vendor for production.
Assistant Superintendent for Business and Operations Mr. Dennis presented renderings and explained the $40,000 payment would release Sign Works to begin design conversations and produce final deliverables. "This is a $40,000 design agreement," Mr. Dennis said. He told the board the full cost of signs and installation across the district was a rough order of magnitude of $500,000 to $1 million, depending on selections. He said the expense is included in the high-school and Central Elementary authorization.
Sign Works representatives showed renderings for the student activity center, the cafeteria, middle-school corridors, elementary wayfinding and a library/media center. The proposals include three-dimensional lettering, lighting, window treatments for STEM spaces and bulkhead treatments intended to reduce classroom distraction and improve wayfinding. Mr. Dennis said the initial work focuses on interior elements; external wayfinding and campus signage were not included in the $40,000 design agreement.
The board voted to approve the design agreement by voice vote. Mr. Dennis said final costs will depend on design selections and that the board would see budget figures when construction/installation authorization is requested in future action items.
