School committee recognizes food-service staff union as bargaining unit E of HEA

The Hingham School Committee on Aug. 18 voted unanimously to recognize the Hingham Food Services Association as bargaining unit E of the Hingham Education Association (HEA), the committee said. Carrie Nee described the request: the food‑services technicians, managers and assistant managers asked to be recognized as part of the HEA. The committee then moved and seconded a recognition motion and approved it by roll call: all members present voted in favor. The committee did not take additional action on a successor contract at that meeting; committee members said salary‑negotiations work would continue in scheduled meetings between negotiators and the newly recognized unit.
