Hingham receives Title I, II and IV allocations; district outlines planned uses

District leaders told the School Committee on Aug. 18 that Hingham has received federal entitlement funding for Title I, Title II and Title IV for the 2025 cycle and described intended uses. Erica Pollard reported the district will receive $79,350 in Title I funds, which the district plans to use largely to fund a math interventionist at the high school; private schools within the district’s boundaries that request services must be offered their equitable share, Pollard said, noting New England Hebrew Academy had requested Title I services in prior years. "Title I specifically is meant to close achievement gaps, particularly for low income students," she said. Title II funding of $44,435 is slated primarily for professional development to improve educator effectiveness and leadership; private schools may request a pro rata share by early September, Pollard added. Title IV funding of $10,000 will support well‑rounded educational opportunities and professional development related to technology. Committee members asked procedural questions about whether entitlement grants require school-committee votes; staff said such entitlement allocations are awarded by formula and that the district does not typically vote to accept entitlement allocations. Officials said they will finalize allocations and the scope of work for funded positions and programs quickly to spend funds in the current school year.
