DUNCANVILLE, Texas — Duncanville ISD staff and bond partners reported substantial progress Aug. 18 on the district’s 2023 bond program, which the district said totals $170 million. Presenters showed photos and described completed architectural refreshes, new buses delivered from the bond allocation, high school additions and a portable‑classroom complex opened in time for the first day of classes.
Superintendent Dr. Gorey and bond program manager staff reported that 30 new buses are now on site — 15 delivered last summer and 15 this summer — including 10 special‑needs buses, with the remainder of smaller (14‑passenger) buses expected within the next year. The bond committee had allocated $7 million for buses, staff said.
Lockwood, Andrews & Newnham (LAN) and district presenters walked trustees through architectural refresh photos for multiple campuses. Work cited included new luxury vinyl tile (LVT) classroom floors, painting, ceiling and lighting upgrades, renovated restrooms with ceramic tile and new partitions, library carpet replacements, and courtyard concrete replacement. Specific campuses highlighted included Daniel Elementary, Harding Elementary, Bear Pin School, Reid Middle School, Kenimer, Alexander, Bill Hart, Fair Meadows, Hyman and Merrifield. Presenters thanked principals and staff for working around summer construction.
At the high school, presenters reported progress on building foundations and interior work for a CTE/added space (Building M) adjacent to existing structures; portable classroom complexes opened and were functioning for students on the first day of school, though staff noted ongoing dust control and daily custodial cleanup near active construction zones.
Technology staff reported distribution and training for new interactive classroom panels. Presenters said panels had been distributed to all classrooms except the high school, where installation would begin in about two weeks and is expected to be complete by fall break. The district also provided teacher devices to all staff ahead of schedule, and vendors provided training and a “guru” help hotline for live assistance.
Trustees asked clarifying questions about restroom partitions and carpets; staff said early photographs shown were taken before partitions were installed and confirmed many classroom carpets are now modular carpet tiles. The board publicly thanked contractors, LAN and vendors for their work to have campuses ready for the start of school.
The bond update was informational; no contracting actions were taken in this portion of the meeting.
