Duncanville ISD approved a five‑year memorandum of understanding with the University of Texas at Arlington to host athletic trainer interns under district supervision; the agreement is at no cost and initially projects one intern.
DUNCANVILLE, Texas — The Duncanville ISD board unanimously approved a five‑year memorandum of understanding on Aug. 18 with the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) to host athletic trainer interns who will work under licensed district athletic trainers.
Pam Brown presented the agreement, which includes a requirement that UTA ensure interns are prepared before placement, provide faculty oversight, and coordinate closely with the district liaison. The district will designate a licensed athletic trainer or liaison to supervise interns and will provide access to facilities, equipment and experiences. The MOU includes standard termination provisions and was presented as having no financial impact to the district.
District staff said the program is projected to start with one intern and could grow over time across the five‑year term. Trustees asked whether the interns would displace current student trainers or affect athlete care; staff replied the interns would work alongside licensed athletic trainers and student trainers and would not reduce existing services.
The board approved the MOU by electronic vote; staff will proceed with onboarding and supervise the clinical placement in partnership with UTA.
