Commission ratifies Forest Service grant amendment and approves USDA road cooperation agreement

Millard County commissioners ratified a modification to a U.S. Forest Service grant and approved a five-year memorandum with the U.S. Department of Agriculture that lays out cooperation on certain Forest Service roads. Lisa and county staff told commissioners the only change in the Forest Service grant modification was an increase in the county's financial responsibility by $5,000 for road and campground work where county crews support Forest Service activities. "Your responsibility is the money," staff explained, and the commission moved to ratify the agreement. The commission also approved a USDA road agreement that lists the roads at issue and assigns maintenance responsibilities. County staff said the agreement largely formalizes work the county has already been performing on many Forest Service roads and that it is structured as an "intention to cooperate" with an annual meeting to discuss maintenance projects. The document covers a five-year term and will require any project beyond routine surfacing to be addressed in separate, later agreements. Commissioners approved both items without recorded opposition and asked county road staff to continue coordinating with Forest Service planners on specific maintenance projects.
