Newport treasurer reports all five special election articles passed

City Treasurer James Johnson reported the results of a recent special election at the start of the council meeting, telling the council that all five ballot articles had passed. Johnson read vote totals into the record. He said Article 1, the fire truck appropriation, received 151 yes votes and 84 no votes. Article 2, a water‑tower measure, received 151 yes and 83 no. Article 3, a $1,800,000 transfer to refund a deficit in the general fund, received 146 yes and 87 no. Article 4, a $1,000,000 transfer to the sewer fund, received 141 yes and 92 no. Article 5, an addition of $220,000 to the annual budget, received 121 yes and 113 no. Johnson reported that each article passed. After the reading, the council voted to approve the consent agenda, which included acceptance of the special election results and two additional vendor items. The council approved the consent agenda by voice vote; the chair announced, "The ayes have it."
