Resident urges village to investigate blocked county land access behind Karimitz Curve

At the Sept. 2 Administration Finance Committee meeting, resident Richard Lundquist of 6451 Karimitz Curve raised a public-comment concern that county-owned land behind his street had been barricaded, preventing residents from using the land for access, mulch deliveries and preventing a farmer from mowing hay on the parcel.

Lundquist said a recent anonymous complaint had prompted barriers and that he and seven of the eight households on his street had submitted a petition seeking access; he told the committee the barricade prevented vehicles and a farmer who used the parcel twice a year from performing mowing. He said alternatives suggested to the owner, including constructing an entrance from Old River Road, would cost thousands of dollars that the owner could not afford.

A trustee interrupted to remind the speaker that public comment is for addressing the committee; afterward the committee said it was ‘‘listening’’ and had taken notes. Committee members told Lundquist staff had the matter on their plate and would continue to address it; a trustee also said he had already spoken with the resident by phone. The committee did not take formal action during the meeting; staff indicated they would follow up with the resident outside the meeting.
