The Planning and Economic Development Committee voted Sept. 2 to forward Ordinance 28‑25 — a variance request to industrial design building-material standards to allow shipping containers for storage behind Park City Church at North Second Street — to the Sept. 15 board meeting with a positive recommendation.
Staff told the committee that shipping containers do not comply with the village’s industrial design standards; staff recommended denial. The applicant — Park City Church — told the Planning and Zoning Commission the containers would be used temporarily while building improvements are made. The Planning and Zoning Commission approved the variance with two conditions: the containers may remain for no more than three years and they must be enclosed by a solid site-obscuring fence so they are not visible from North Second Street or Shafford.
Committee members had no additional questions during the meeting and approved forwarding the ordinance by voice vote. The item will return to the board on Sept. 15 for final action.
