City staff seeks zoning board support for Milliard District design charrette

Connor Musen, deputy planning manager, briefed the Nashua Zoning Board of Adjustment on March 25 about a two-day design charrette for the city's Milliard District scheduled for May 30–31 and requested the board's support.
Musen said the community-engagement charette, coordinated with Plan New Hampshire, will bring residents, business stakeholders and planning professionals together for tours, roundtables and collaborative design exercises and will yield a final outcomes report and recommendations. He said there is already development interest in properties in the Milliard area.
Board members asked clarifying questions about geography and logistics. Musen described the study area as the riverfront horseshoe bend that includes Milltec Park, the old Nimco site and properties west of the canal between the canal and Pine Soles Park; he said it does not extend to the eastern side of Main Street. Members asked whether participants could attend part of the sessions; Musen said the event is flexible and people may join for portions of the two days.
Board members agreed the board should provide a letter of support and asked staff to email a draft letter to the chair and vice chair for signature. The chair or vice chair will sign on behalf of the board; staff indicated Jay (chair) is expected to sign if available, otherwise Vice Chair Josh Neely will sign. The board requested notice of date, time and catering arrangements when finalized.
Musen invited the board to attend the charette and to share the invitation with stakeholders.
