Library staff report: resignation, microbial cleanup, solar updates and fall events

Library Director Jennifer updated trustees on operations, facilities and staffing at the Aug. 25 meeting, reporting a staff resignation, completed remediation work, energy projects and fall event plans. Jennifer said the library received an expected resignation from Michelle (last name not specified) and that staff are evaluating how to cover the ten hours of service she performed. She also reported that an area of microbial buildup had been identified and remediated: city facilities staff and Johnson Controls were involved, cleaning occurred and dehumidifiers were deployed; the issue had not reappeared. On energy projects, Jennifer said solar panels are saving money but that payback estimates were longer than residential installs; she recalled payback estimates in the multiple-year range and noted the contractor reduced the number of panels proposed for the library roof. Self-check stations are working after a multi-month effort by staff. Jennifer asked trustees to approve closing the parking lot at 1 p.m. on the trunk-or-treat event day so volunteers can keep children safe; the library building would remain open and alternate parking would be available. She also reminded trustees of a volunteer appreciation breakfast on Sept. 13 and an FPL Foundation fundraiser with an RSVP date in early September. Trustees asked staff to continue monitoring facilities, expedite recruitment or coverage for the vacant hours, and provide budget implications for ongoing energy projects.
