The Zoning Board of Adjustment on Oct. 12 unanimously approved a special exception for an attached accessory dwelling unit at 94 Nottingham Drive in Ward 9.
Applicant Sandra Mulgrew told the board the proposed ADU would be a 720‑square‑foot unit attached to the main house via a shared vestibule and is intended for the couple’s adult daughter, who has a degenerative back condition. Mulgrew said she and her husband had discussed construction impacts with their immediate abutter.
Board members reviewed the application and the required ADU affidavit, which Mulgrew said she and her husband signed. Members characterized the request as “very straightforward” and within the regulations for ADUs in the R‑9 zone.
A motion to approve the special exception was made and seconded; the board voted unanimously in favor. The chair noted the standard 30‑day appeal window and advised the applicants to contact planning staff with questions.
The approval covers the ADU as presented, including the attached 24‑by‑30‑foot structure and the stated purpose for occupancy.
