Gainesville City approved a one‑year lease to continue using the Butler Center for after‑school and weekend programs, city officials said. The board approved the lease by voice vote after a staff presentation and budget clarification.
Dr. Williams explained the original lease at the Butler Center had run through the ESSER window, which ended in September, and staff had discussed options with program leadership. "So $30,000 a year is what it would cost us," Dr. Williams said when describing the estimated annual cost for continued use; staff also referenced monthly figures of about $2,500–$3,000.
Dr. Williams said the Butler Center hosts the Hall County Family Connections office and that once the Boys and Girls Club moves out at the end of February or March the city expects to use the space for more after‑school and weekend programs. Kayla, who oversees the program, had taken the matter to her board for discussion prior to the city agenda item.
City staff indicated the monthly lease amount would be paid from an established rental line item in the general operating budget; Mr. Niles confirmed the cost would be covered and that the budget will be adjusted next year if needed. The lease term presented at the meeting was one year; Dr. Williams said that if terms do not change the agreement could be placed on the consent agenda in future years, and if the amount changes it would return to the board for consideration.
Mr. Pettit moved to approve the lease agreement; Mr. Young seconded. "All those in favor? Motion carries," the chair said, and the record shows the motion passed on a voice vote. The transcript records no recorded roll‑call tally or dissent for the motion.
The board also adopted the meeting agenda earlier in the session and later moved to adjourn; both motions were recorded as carried by voice vote in the meeting transcript.
