Gainesville City Schools honors student authors and names Teachers of the Year

Gainesville City Schools recognized student winners of a district author/writing competition and announced the district’s Teachers of the Year during the meeting.
Administrators invited winners forward by school and grade. District leaders also introduced the 2024–25 Teachers of the Year by school, naming Caroline Wilwood from Centennial Arts Academy and Mara Lemus from the International Academy among honorees called by the deputy superintendent. The district noted that each school Teacher of the Year receives $500 and the district Teacher of the Year receives $10,000 through the foundation program the district described.
The board and administrators thanked outgoing administrator Dr. Sears, who was noted as retiring April 14 and was recognized at the meeting for her service. The recognition segment concluded before the regular business portion of the agenda.
