The Zoning Board of Adjustment on June 10 approved a special exception for the G and K Troxell 2022 Revocable Trust to convert an existing attached two-car garage at 8 Dunlap Drive into an accessory (in‑law) dwelling unit.
Applicant Nathaniel Braley, acting as agent for homeowner Christy Troxell, told the board the conversion will provide living space for the homeowner following the recent death of her spouse. Plans call for infilling the garage doors with windows to retain the home’s colonial appearance, reusing matching western red cedar siding, and adding an eight-by-18-foot deck at the rear. The garage footprint (approximately 616 square feet) will not change; driveway parking and cul-de-sac capacity were described as sufficient by the applicant.
Board members characterized the plan as well thought out and compatible with the neighborhood and found the special exception criteria satisfied. The motion to approve was made and carried unanimously. The board noted the standard 30-day appeal period before construction may proceed.
