Summary
Morgan Township trustees approved resolutions to accept participation agreements tied to the national opioid settlement as presented by a township chief, with estimated initial payments to be determined.
Chief Griffith told trustees he had completed paperwork for participation in parts of the national opioid settlement and requested resolutions authorizing the township to join the agreements. He asked for a resolution accepting the National Opioid Settlement Participation Agreement between the Morgan Township Board of Trustees and Purdue Pharma LP and the Sackler family, and a separate resolution accepting the participation agreement through Anthem on behalf of Anthem self-funded group clients that bill through Anthem. "The first payment they're thinking is 2,026," Chief Griffith said, referencing an estimated initial payment amount; he cautioned the actual fractional amount will be finalized only when the township receives the first check. Trustees moved and approved both resolutions during the meeting. Chief Griffith explained that Anthem had joined the lawsuit on behalf of entities that bill through Anthem and that Morgan Township is eligible for a settlement share because it bills through Anthem. The trustee motions were seconded and recorded as approved. The chief characterized the forthcoming funds as a settlement distribution and urged trustees to allow him to finish the paperwork to receive the checks when issued.
