Township approves purchase of seven refurbished computers to meet Windows 11 support

Morgan Township trustees voted Sept. 8 to approve the purchase of seven refurbished desktop computers so township systems will meet requirements for Windows 11 and continue receiving security updates.
Chris Brucker of Oxford Computer Solutions, who provides the township’s IT services, told the board that several existing machines are 8–10 years old and do not meet Windows 11 requirements, which include higher minimum RAM and certain hardware features. "The move to Windows 11 is the key... it's also a security conversation," Brucker said, explaining that unsupported Windows 10 machines could be susceptible to hacks if not upgraded.
Brucker estimated roughly $500 per refurbished unit versus $1,000 for new desktops; based on the township’s inventory (two systems at the fire station and five at the Admin Building, including the fiscal officer’s machine), the rough replacement cost would be about $3,500 if the fiscal officer’s existing unit can be reused. He said three refurbished units were already identified and earmarked for the township.
A trustee moved and the board approved a motion to acquire seven refurbished computers (two for the firehouse and five for the administrative building). The motion passed with recorded votes in which trustees present voted in favor or abstained as noted on the record.
