The City Council approved $44,319.48 on Aug. 18, 2025, to upgrade municipal fiber‑ring equipment, citing cybersecurity and interoperability needs. Bryson (city IT/staff) told council the existing fiber infrastructure — installed around 2018 and used for door access control, police cameras, phones and Wi‑Fi — was budgeted for replacement and the quotes initially aligned with a $55,000 capital allocation. He said a state‑negotiated contract through CDW‑G lowered the price by about $10,000.
"This will line up perfectly with [the October] penetration testing, to get us a good score on that," Bryson said. He also said the city and the vendor verified part numbers with the manufacturer to ensure equipment parity.
Council members asked whether the purchase was tied to selling the fiber; staff clarified the upgrade was necessary regardless of any future sale. Council approved the CDW‑G quote by voice vote: "All in favor? Aye. Opposed? Motion carries." The transcript records the approved amount as $44,319.48 and indicates the purchase was budgeted in capital for the current fiscal year.
