School officials report progress on modular classrooms at Bowling Green Elementary, target teacher move-in Aug. 22

School staff told the Caroline County School Board that modular classroom units delivered July 30 for Bowling Green Elementary School have been installed and connected, with inspections and punch list work nearly complete.
Facilities manager (presented as “Mister Caldwell” in the meeting) said the factory team completed punch items Aug. 13, HVAC/electrical/plumbing startups were done, and three standard inspections passed. A foundation reinspection and final fire-alarm and occupancy inspections were expected to be called in and performed later in the week; custodial staff have begun cleaning and waxing the units.
“Tentatively, we are projecting for a possible teacher move in on August 22,” Caldwell said, adding the date depends on receipt of engineer paperwork and final inspections.
Board members asked about operational costs. The facilities presenter said power-utility impacts had not been incorporated into the budget yet and that the finance office would account for utility upticks as the school year progresses.
The project timeline reported to the board: - Units procured June 2; site and permitting work in June–July. - Delivery July 30; installation completed Aug. 3 by Wilmot Bender. - Infrastructure and final connections Aug. 4–12. - Fire-alarm and intercom installed Aug. 11; HVAC/electrical/plumbing startups completed following factory punch work. - Multiple inspections passed; foundation paperwork and a small ramp piece remained to be received from the vendor.
The board was told that playground access was restored Aug. 11 so students could use outdoor spaces while work continued. Staff said custodians had already been in the units working on finishing and cleaning.
The board did not take formal action on the update but directed staff to continue coordinating inspections and to report back as permits and occupancy certificates are finalized.
