Superintendent Horstley urges Constitution Month lessons at Granger High School

Superintendent Horstley said he is teaching U.S. government and Constitution classes at Granger High School and asked families and teachers to mark September as Constitution Month and Sept. 17 as Constitution Day. "It's September, which is Constitution Month, and on September 17, it's also Constitution Day," Horstley said.

Horstley described classroom activities and urged parents to reinforce the lessons at home. "We just got some clips from my class. We were talking about the ratification of the Constitution, the weakness of the Articles of Confederation, how important the Bill of Rights are to, protecting our rights as individual citizens," he said, adding that students used hand signals to remember freedoms including freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of the press.

Horstley said he teaches at Granger High School on Tuesdays and Thursdays and every other Friday and offered a "huge shout out" to district schools that will be featuring Constitution Month activities. He encouraged parents to "have these conversations with your kids, integrate it into other forms of your lesson, the founding documents of our great nation, and celebrate the freedoms that we all have through the Bill of Rights."
