At its Sept. 4 meeting the Historic Preservation Board received several administrative updates: staff said bids related to the city-owned shuffleboard court restoration will close Sept. 17, the Gulf Beaches Historic Museum invited volunteers for a gardening session the following Monday, and Public Services notified the board of forthcoming road closures and a multi-month subaqueous water-main project.
Brandon Berry and other staff said bids for the shuffleboard court work and the related historic-paycheck restoration project will close Sept. 17 and that staff expects to report results at a future meeting. Lynn Heintzel Smith (museum representative) invited board members and the public to a volunteer gardening morning at 9:30 a.m. the following Monday and encouraged participation.
Public Services staff told the board that Sept. 13 is confirmed for a road closure associated with Surfers for Autism and that a tentative Nov. 15 closure is planned for a separate event; staff also said Pinellas County plans subaqueous water-main replacement work that could close Ninth Avenue for an extended period and that detours are likely. Staff committed to provide additional scheduling and detour details when the county supplies a firm timeline.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the scope and anticipated detours. Staff said the city will coordinate with county crews, provide public notices, and return with more detailed schedules when available.
