Mesa council members highlight Hispanic Heritage Month, Love Your City Week and 9/11 day of service

Council members used the Sept. 8 study session to highlight upcoming cultural and volunteer events across Mesa. "Happy Hispanic Heritage Month," Council Member Duff said, noting events including the East Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s multicultural fair and an El Grito event scheduled for Sept. 13 in Pioneer Park. Duff described a morning visit to Aster Aging during Love Your City Week and said she spoke with a Vietnam War veteran who had previously served as a council member and mayor. "For those who served in the Vietnam War, welcome home," Duff said. A participant identified as Julie told the council that Saturday is the Sept. 11 Day of Service and that multiple volunteer projects will take place citywide. She advised residents seeking opportunities to visit the City of Mesa website or JustServe.org. The study session included an encouragement for residents to take part in neighborhood service projects and interfaith events; no binding council actions or funding decisions related to these events were made during the session.
