Tooele County Board of Equalization approves 2024 property-value adjustments, returns $5,034.60 to taxpayers

The Tooele County Board of Equalization voted unanimously Sept. 2 in the council chambers at the Tooele County Building to approve final corrections for more than 200 property-value adjustments from 2024, returning $5,034.60 to taxpayers.

The action followed a presentation by an assessor's office representative, who said, "The total taxable value of those adjustments was $394,221.02," and added that "the total dollar amount returned to the taxpayers of that amount is $5,034.60." The representative said the average taxable value change was about 37 percent and the average tax-dollar amount returned was $25.05.

The board first approved minutes from its March 11 meeting on a motion by Councilman Thomas, seconded by Councilman Hamner; that motion passed unanimously. Later, the board approved the assessor's final corrections for 2024. The presiding officer called for a vote on the corrections and said the measure "passes unanimously." The transcript indicates Councilmember Ty, participating by Zoom, voted in favor.

The assessor's presenter described the statistics as part of the office's effort to ensure accurate valuations, calling the staff "in the assessor's office" and saying they "work incredibly hard." No other changes to policy, appeals procedures, or dollar amounts were proposed during the discussion, and the board gave no additional direction beyond approving the documents.

After the approvals the board adjourned.
