RSU 14 reports kindergarten surge, teacher reassignment and transportation updates ahead of school year

Superintendent (name not specified) told the RSU 14 Board of Directors on Aug. 8 that kindergarten registration was unusually large and that Raymond Elementary and Wyndham Primary had reached capacity in some grades. The superintendent said kindergarten at Wyndham Primary had 204 students and that the district moved a first-grade teacher into kindergarten to add capacity before classroom placements were distributed.
The superintendent said other grade-level counts included 274 students in fourth grade (across Raymond Elementary School and Manchester School) and 254 students in seventh grade. The report said those increases were still “within the numbers” used in the district budget but were “creeping up a little bit.”
On transportation, the superintendent said the transportation department worked over the summer to collapse some bus runs and balance ridership so buses are neither under- nor over-loaded. Parents were asked to update student ridership in Infinite Campus so routes can be finalized.
The superintendent also said the new student cell-phone policy the board adopted in June has been communicated to families, and that Wyndham High School staff are finalizing an implementation plan for the first day of classes and will present details to the board at its next meeting on Aug. 20 if members want a briefing.
Why this matters: large incoming kindergarten cohorts and changes to bus routing affect classroom staffing, logistics and family planning in the weeks before school starts.
