The Davenport Civil Rights Commission voted Sept. 9 to add two applicants, Carol Johnson and Joshua Barr, to its hearing-officer list. The commission clarified the addition places the two attorneys on the roster so they may be invited to preside over future public hearings; it does not constitute a present hiring to preside over a specific hearing. The applicants were described by Director Lacey as former commission directors with civil-rights experience: Joshua Barr previously served as director for the Des Moines Civil Rights Commission and Carol Johnson has prior director experience and work with the U.S. Department of Justice and HUD. Commissioners reviewed their resumes and voted to add both names to the list; the motion was recorded as carried on a voice vote. The commission will use the expanded list to contact available hearing officers when a case goes to public hearing. No hearing assignments were made at the Sept. 9 meeting.
