Council recognized organizers of the city's 16th annual golf tournament and presented donations to beneficiaries on Aug. 18.
Paul (event organizer) told council the February tournament benefits the American Cancer Society and, in recent years, Helpful Hands. He thanked city staff, volunteers and title sponsor Waste Pro and estimated the overall donations to the American Cancer Society were "just under $400,000" (staff phrasing). The city reported a $10,000 annual contribution to Helpful Hands this year and said city fundraising totaled $30,000 distributed to the two causes.
A representative of the American Cancer Society described local programs funded by donations, including Road to Recovery (patient transportation), Hope Lodge locations and a 1-800 support line, and thanked the community for sustained support. Council and staff thanked event volunteers and sponsors.
Council accepted the presentation; staff and organizers posed for photographs on the dais.
