The City Commission reviewed the annual evaluation of the city manager on Aug. 11. Human Resources compiled the five commissioners' evaluations and distributed a summary. The overall assessment in the packet indicated an "above satisfactory" overall performance rating.
Commission discussion: Commissioner Peterson praised the city manager and moved (and later formally moved) to provide an additional 5% raise to the city manager effective Oct. 1, on top of the standard 5% increase provided to all general employees. Commissioner Berry seconded the motion. The manager said additional money "is not gonna make or break where I am" and that his decision to remain was not driven by the pay level.
Vote: The motion to add the additional 5% failed on roll call. Some commissioners supported the extra raise; others opposed it, saying the citywide 5% raise and market conditions should be considered across staff. No other employment actions were taken at the meeting.
Outcome: The city manager's evaluation remains part of the public record; staff and commissioners will proceed with standard compensation actions approved in the FY26 budget but not the additional manager‑specific increase proposed at the meeting.
