Oviedo recognizes Super 7477 robotics team after trip to world championships

Coach Prasad and student leaders of Super 7477, Oviedo's FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team, addressed the Oviedo City Council on Aug. 18 to summarize their recent season, community outreach and results at world competition.
Coach Prasad said the team started in 2010 and draws students from Hagerty High School and Seminole High School. The team described their robot's subsystems (intake, double-jointed arm, slides and odometry pods) and explained that the competition includes a 30-second autonomous period followed by two minutes of driver control and an endgame.
Students recounted competitive results: Super 7477 qualified for the Houston World Championships after regional success, recorded a 6-4 match record at worlds in the Franklin division and finished 15th in that division. The team also described outreach work: supporting or helping start robotics programs at Wilson Elementary, Parkland Elementary, Lyman Institute, Stenson Elementary and mentoring math teams at Carillon Weekly.
Mayor and council members congratulated the students and noted the team's role in expanding STEM opportunities in Oviedo. Council requested a group photo and praised the students'presentation.
