Fairport Harbor’s planning staff announced the launch of a comprehensive plan process and formation of a 15-member steering committee. Andy (village engineer/planning staff) said the steering committee’s first meeting is scheduled for tomorrow at 6 p.m. at the VFW; meetings are open to the public though not to public comment. Staff will also hold pop-up outreach events, a community open house and a community-wide survey.
Andy said the planning consultant and staff aim to complete the plan in about one year, targeting a finish by next summer. He described coordination needs with local stakeholders, including the school, for certain projects such as New Fourth Street design and water-main replacement. Planning staff also began interviews with village residents and committee members.
Council and staff said 15 committee members were selected from a larger pool of applicants and that staff would continue public engagement opportunities. The administration indicated the comprehensive plan will inform future zoning and capital projects, and that certain items (for example, a request by the Board of Zoning Appeals to consider prohibiting living quarters above garages) would be held until the planning process provides broader policy context.
