The Middleton School District Board advanced a group of policy updates from first reading to second reading and adopted several transportation-related policies after staff review. District staff said contracted transportation provider General Transportation is responsible for driver training, pre-trip and post-trip inspections, driver certification and conducting two annual on-bus safety drills with students (fall and spring). Staff said the contractor provides records and that the district's transportation director will ensure compliance with the new policy language.
Trustees asked about details for safety training and whether the district would collect evidence of driver training and bus inspections; staff said the contract requires the provider to deliver those services and that the district will monitor compliance through its transportation director. Board members also asked about stops that serve daycares and were told routes are coordinated through the contractor and school administration.
Staff recommended moving a set of first-reading policies to second reading and recommended adopting second-reading policies, including updated procedures that consolidate prior policy language. Trustees approved the procedural move and adopted the second-reading policies by voice vote.
