Middleton to begin ELA adoption and move to new K–3 vendor; district outlines assessment calendar

Middleton School District staff told trustees they will begin the second-half adoption process for a new ELA curriculum this fall, coordinate a science adoption and implement a new K–3 screening vendor for the Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI). The district presented an assessment calendar that schedules state results and local reporting over the coming months.

Curriculum director Lisa Goodson (presenting) said the district will bring AP results, SAT data and finalized state assessment results to the board later in the fall once the state completes its review process. She said the state is switching vendors for the IRI and that the district's finalized IRI report will come in October because of the vendor transition.

Goodson told the board the district adopted a new foundational-reading curriculum based on the science of reading (95% Group) and will begin professional development for teachers the very next day. She said the district deliberately selected a single, systematic approach to reduce repeated changes for students across grade levels and ensure consistent vocabulary and routines across tier 1 and interventions.

Trustees asked for assessment data broken down by school and grade to track where interventions are needed; administrators agreed to provide school- and grade-level breakdowns where disclosure would not identify individual teachers or students. Staff also said they would avoid publishing school-level data in small-grade cohorts where a single teacher or an identifiable student could be singled out.

Superintendent and staff said they will bring midyear intervention reports in January, the finalized graduation rate in February (after first appeals), and course proposals or curricular recommendations in March. The calendar includes the district's intention to present engagement survey results in June and the spring state summative results once they are certified by the state.
