The City Council on Aug. 12 approved a Duke Energy easement to allow the Boys & Girls Club to install a new pole and larger conductors needed to upgrade electrical service for a kitchen expansion and pavilion improvements.
City staff explained the project requires adding one pole and larger wiring to move the facility from a 100-amp to a 400-amp service to support a commercial-style kitchen. The work follows the same path as the existing service and uses the same poles, staff said; the additional pole and larger conductors triggered the need for a formal easement.
Action taken: Council approved staff recommendation to allow Duke Energy to place the additional pole and extend service along the same route; the measure passed on roll call.
Impact: The easement removes an obstacle to the Club's planned kitchen expansion and ensures the Club can proceed with the electrical work required for the upgraded facilities. The council did not authorize financial contributions to the project during the vote.
