Public Works Director Catherine Hough told the council the borough participates with 12 other municipalities in a cooperative bidding process led by a neighboring township and that the bid locks a per-ton price for the season; Hough said the borough currently has approximately 25 tons in storage and last year used far less than the 400-ton maximum.
The motion to award the contract was moved and seconded and then approved in a unanimous roll-call vote. Council members also asked for clarity on tonnage and the procurement arrangement; Hough confirmed the $69.75/ton price and said the borough typically orders additional salt during winter if needed.
Why it matters: Locking a price through a cooperative bid gives the borough purchasing power and a defined per-ton cost for road salt ahead of winter.
